What Is a Charter School?
Charter Schools are free public schools organized under California law and funded by the State of California. Charter schools differ from regular public schools as they are run independently. They can make their own decisions about hiring, textbooks, and educational policies, as long as they comply with California State requirements. Charter schools provide an opportunity for active parent and student involvement and creative solutions to educational challenges.
What is New Village Charter High School?
New Village Charter High School opened in 2006 to provide personalized education for girls in a small school setting. New Village is an independent public charter school that welcomes girls from all backgrounds and experiences.
New Village Charter High School provides small classes and rich course offerings that satisfy all admission requirements for the University of California and other colleges.
New Village offers a variety of classes and experiences in the arts and human development, in addition to core academic subjects. New Village is a four-year, all-girls, public charter high school with a maximum of 180 students. New Village is committed to small classes with a student-to-faculty ratio of no more than 20 to 1. The New Village campus is safe, recently renovated and well equipped. It is located near Rampart and Beverly Boulevards in downtown Los Angeles.
Each student at New Village has a faculty advisor who remains the same until the student graduates. The student, with her advisor’s guidance, develops an individual learning plan built around her strengths and challenges, interests and occupational goals. The individual learning plan assures that each entering student’s high school work will satisfy the admission requirements of the University of California and other colleges and universities.
Nurtured and treated with genuine respect, New Village students are expected to become self-reliant women through the development of the skills, ambition, and self-confidence necessary to lead productive, successful lives. Our core belief is that all students are gifted, and New Village welcomes girls of all abilities and backgrounds.
New Village is associated with Big Picture Learning, a nationally acclaimed educational innovator. Click here http://www.bigpicture.org for additional information about Big Picture Learning and Big Picture schools.
