What Is a Charter School?

students-wk-4-more.jpg

Charter Schools are free public schools organized under California law and funded by the State of California. Charter schools differ from regular public schools as they are run independently. They can make their own decisions about hiring, textbooks, and educational policies, as long as they comply with California State requirements. Charter schools provide an opportunity for active parent and student involvement and creative solutions to educational challenges.

What is New Village Charter High School?

New Village Charter High School is a college preparatory school serving young women, which opened in September 2006 with grades 9 and 10. For the school year beginning in September 2007, 11th grade will be added; and 12th grade will be added the following year. New Village’s goal is that all graduating seniors will be well prepared to either apply to a four or two year college; to enroll in vocational training; or to enter directly into the world of work.

New Village Charter High School enables students within a girls-only setting to achieve academic success, emotional well-being, and social responsibility for self, family and community. By providing a rigorous curriculum with an individualized learning plan for each young woman, New Village provides a personalized educational program based on strengths, needs, interests, goals and plans for a productive future.

New Village, an exciting, creative, and individually helpful place to study and learn, is located in a newly renovated and equipped building near Rampart and Beverly Boulevards in Los Angeles.

  • Computers in each classroom and instructional assistants to provide additional classroom assistance
